Does this crap actually work?

My wife's car has a drippy problem that cannot be solved with antibiotics. My question is, does this crap actually work, or should I just skip it and replace the radiator? It is not a gushing leak, just a slow drip drip. Maybe a bit of a burning sensation as well...

Wait, that's something else.

Any advice is appreciated.

If it blocks leaks in a radiator, what does it do to coolant pathways? I would just fix the leak. Radiators are cheap, engines are expensive.

Anecdotally I know several people who've tried it, and I've never known anyone who it worked for.

A cheap new radiator from RockAuto is my recommended fix for a drippy radiator.

EDIT: Holtz Radweld is the one I would recommend if you still want to try some. It's the stuff used by Subaru (IIRC it's a warranty requirement for certain model years).

I'm wondering about this too. My Civic has the exact same problem. It's just a very slow dripping leak, and I have to keep putting antifreeze in every few days.

I'll leave this here. . .

I wouldn't touch that stuff. Just fix it the right way and save some money.

Well...it worked on woozy old MG radiators...a couple of 'em. With no apparent reduction in cooling capacity otherwise.

I'd take a look and see if its leaking around any fittings (like the ones for a tranny cooler line or temp sensor). A little Teflon tape, and some high temp RTV on a washer has done wonders without the cost of even a cheap radiator.

Yeah, it's generally better for oldstuff radiatomors than the newfangled kind. Lower pressures, more likelihood of brass to get a grip on than aluminum/plastic BS, less risk of supor-small passages.

Worked for my brother's old Pathfinder, not the same brand but similar shit.

He only used it because the thing was so far past gone that replacing the radiator would have been a waste of time and money. Caught itself on fire a few weeks later so he made the right decision.

That is a good idea. The car that it is on is a 2006 Saab 9-3. That car has what looks like THREE radiators. (No one of them is not an intercooler) I am sure one is transmission cooler, but the funny thing is that they are all the same size and roughly the same thickness. Anyhow, it is the middle radiator and it looks like it is running down the right-hand side of that one. I haven't been able to see exactly where it is leaking from yet.

By what you said; the first one (the air hits) is most likely the A/C condenser, the second is the tranny cooler, and the third would be the radiator. At least thats the common layout, I'm not really familiar with Saabs and I know they were notorious over-engineerers. Try to see if there are any water temp sensors or other fittings in the area you think the leak might be coming from (what I said about fittings for a tranny cooler only applies to the ones integrated into the radiator). If there aren't any in the area, there very well could be a hairline crack in one of the passages (they usually crack at the braze joints at the top or bottom). Either way you're probably pulling the radiator but double check the old one when its out to be sure, it can get really cramped in that area.

It will get you where you need to go. Fix the radiator or leak. If you are trying to sell a car throw this in.
